This winter has been hard on this mom. I’ve noticed that under my eyes my skin was getting more dry, puffy and tired looking then it has ever been. I needed some miracle cream without breaking the bank.
I’ve read several articles via Pinterest about coconut oil and it’s benefits which led me to the blog, One Good Thing by Jillee. She had a simple eye cream recipe that I couldn’t wait to try.
I bought the two ingredients (organic coconut oil and vitamin E capsules), did some melting and mixing and viola! I have the best DIY Homemade Eye Cream that is gentle and homemade, but very effective. I’ve seen a big difference in just a couple weeks.
It may be cold and snowy outside, but my eyes look like they’ve been on vacation in the tropics!
DIY Homemade Eye Cream
What you will need:
- 1/2 cup Organic coconut oil (Coconut Oil acts as a moisturizer, antibiotic, multivitamin, multi-nutrient and antioxidant.)
- 6-8 Vitamin E capsules (Vitamin E Oil is a strong antioxidant that prevents premature aging and promotes healing.)
- Pin to poke holes in Vitamin E capsules
- Small microwavable bowl for microwaving or small sauce pan for melting on stovetop
- Small container (to store cream in)
- Optional: Frankincense Essential Oil (here is where I buy) – it helps rejuvenate skin and can get rid of fine lines and wrinkles.
Instructions to make:
- Put the coconut oil into a small bowl and microwave for 15 seconds or heat in a small saucepan over low heat for a few minutes until melted into liquid form.
- Pour the liquified oil into your container.
- Poke holes into your Vitamin E capsules and squeeze vitamin liquid into your oil while stirring. (Optional: Add 10 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil.)
- Place the filled containers in the refrigerator for less than an hour until the liquid returns to solid form. After it turns to a solid, there is no need to keep it refrigerated. The oils will not become rancid.
Instructions to use:
- At night, dab a small amount of this best anti aging eye cream ever under your eyes and be prepared to look younger, brighter and extra tropical in the morning.
- I sometimes use a bit in the morning too. Just give it 10 minutes or so to soak into your skin before applying makeup.
- This cream can also be used as an eye-makeup remover. Enjoy!

Note: If you are allergic to coconut oil, coconuts or vitamin E, do not use.

Ooh I will definitely have to try this! I have pure vitamin E oil (rather than the capsules) on my Amazon wish list to add on for next time I need to spend $35 to get free shipping 🙂 And I always have coconut oil.
Kelly Snyder says
I couldn’t believe how simple it is! Great alternative to buying stuff off the store shelves.
lorrie says
I am a huge fan of coconut oil and make all my own hand and face creams with it. We live by “if you wouldn’t put it in your mouth why would you rub it into your skin and into your blood stream?”. For some reason the cream will go bad though if left on the counter. It takes about 2 months or so but it will go dark and break up around the edges. It must be because it has had things added. So its important to only make what you will use.
Jelli says
Love this, Becca! I make my own homemade night cream- it’s a lot like this recipe, and have been planning to do a DIY eye cream soon too. You’re right, it’s great that this stuff doubles as makeup remover. I use mine for that purpose all the time too. Pinning!

I have vitamin e oil not the capsules.
How much vit e oil equals 9 capsules,?
Thanks
Paula Skinner says
I was wondering the same thing. Though I see this comment was from 4 years ago!
Nicole says
3 capsules are about 1/4 tsp so 9 would be 3/4 tsp.

Hi Kellee, Try Amazon. I have a friend who orders everything from Amazon, even toilet paper. If you plan to use it a lot, get the membership which allows for free shipping.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for finally tapking about > DIY Homemade Best Anti Aging Eye Cream < Liked it!
Mary says
I made the anti aging eue cream with coconut oil and vitamin E capsules. I refrigeratoed it for several hours and took it out to use. For some reason it liquidifies when I use it. Is this suppose to happen or should it stay creamy?
Thank you.
Kelly says
Hmmm….it should stay creamy for a time (not forever, but longer than a month.) However, because it is oil, if the temp is warm in your house, it will melt.
Rachael says
Coconut oil melts above 76 degrees, so yes, it should liquify when it touches your skin. And if the temperature of your house is about 76 then it will always be liquid.
Paige says
Does the coconut oil have to be organic?
Kelly says
Nope. It is completely your preference.
Kat Jett says
Not a fan of the microwave, but will try this in a small sauce pan. We use a lot of coconut oil here, so I cant wait to try this recipe.
Thanks for the share.
Kelly says
Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
Jhem Arzaga says
Wow, this is a must try!
I’m a fan of coconut oil for my beauty recipes, but maybe I’ll give it a try some time.
Because right now I still have my newly made diy eye cream which I made from vitamin E and evening primrose.
I’ll do this after I finished my diy eye cream! Thanks for the idea, Kelly!
Marta says
I have vitamin E oil. How much oil do I use?
Kelly says
One capsule.
Shelley says
I believe the question is how much vitamin E oil does one use if it is NOT in a capsule. I also have it in a bottle and not capsule form, so how much does 9 capsules equal? 1 tsp?
Thanks!
Jess says
I made this today.. I can’t wait to start using it! It’s ” cookin’ ” as we speak =)
Kelly says
Woot. Woot!!
Liesl says
I can’t wait to try this! Can you tell me where you got that cute storage container for it? Thanks!
Jennifer says
How much liquid oil vitamin E equals to 8 capsules of vitamin E?
teri says
A word of caution, if you have Celiac disease, make sure your vitamin E is not derived from wheat.
Lindsay says
I’ve made this and it’s great, but it’s certainly not cream- it’s more of a liquid, unless right out of the fridge. I’m wondering if you ever make it with an emulsifier like beeswax? What do you think?
Kelly says
You could give it a shot. I guess with my tired old looking eyes (at 40), the cold eye cream is kind of a good thing. LOL.
kristin says
What’s the shelf life?
Kelly says
I depends if it is left on the counter or in the fridge. If left on the counter, 45 days or less.
Jennifer says
How long would you say it stays good for if stored in the refrigerator?
April says
I made this today and didn’t do any measuring, I also used the vitamin E oil not capsules. It is a bit hard verses creamy so I will see. I was using straight coconut oil, can’t wait to see how this does. I wish this was day or night use, i know it said you could use it in the morning, but if it’s also a makeup remover I can’t see putting on under my eye makeup.
Kelly says
I wouldn’t wear it with eye makeup, but I would wear it if you are just running around the house.
Jackie says
I have the bottle of oil how much do I use?
Kelly says
Which oil? Coconut or Vitamin E?
martina says
living in switzerland, cold and dry right now i only used coconut oil for the past 3 month and now i sure hope to find Vitamine E capsule to add to it. yes it helps in the winter and to remove eye-makup. love it
Kristina says
Can you substitute the coconut oil for an aloe vera gel, or include the coconut oil vitamin E and aloe vera gel for a firmer result?
Kelly says
I’m not sure. You could give it a shot. I’ve only used coconut oil.
Linda Hepburn says
If you add a water-based item, such as Aloe vera gel, it will tend to mold. So the shelf life will be much shorter and it should be refrigerated.
Meari says
I’ve been using a similar DIY eye cream for over a year. I add a few drops of lavender essential oil to mine along with the vitamin E.
Jada says
Can I use vitamin C rather than vitamin E
-Thank you
Kelly says
I wouldn’t. Vitamin E helps restore cellular production and it is sensitive around your eyes.
Vitamin C is great for the rest of your face, though.
Patty says
Vitamin C on your face is photo sensitive so only use it at night.
Kiki White says
Great tip Kelly, thank you so much. I will most certainly try.
I wonder though microwaving would reduce the benefits of vitamin E…
Adriana says
Is it okay to also use Collagen liquid gels?
Kelly says
Yes.
Jennifer says
I just made this and the next morning it was all liquid again 🙁 My air conditioner is on too. It needs something to help it stay solid longer.
Kelly says
Jennifer – with the warm weather, it is harder to keep coconut oil “firm”. (I have a unopened jar in my pantry and it is liquid.) One tip is to keep it in your fridge when not in use.
Maja says
I don’t use Vitamin E capsules but Vitamin E oil. How much would I use of the vitamin E oil?
Kelly says
Each capsule contains around a 1/2 teaspoon of oil, so adjust accordingly. Plus, there really is no such thing as too much Vitamin E.
Sheryl Chiaramonte says
Hi Kelly, thanks for the great recipe. You don’t mention how much one batch makes. With 1/2 C Coconut Oil it seems to me I could fill several small containers and give to friends???
Kelly says
It depends on the size of container, but yes, you could DEFINITELY do that!!
ashley says
Hey Kelly, wonderful idea! Will be doing this! I have one question. Does the mg of the vitamin E capsule matter? If so, what mg should I use?
Thank you!
Kelly says
No…it doesn’t matter. I think I bought 400 IU the last time.
ashley says
Thank you so much! 🙂
Hanna zhou says
I will try today thanks a lot jelly!
Chelle says
Hello! As i don’t know anything about the essential oil stuff, am wondering if tea tree oil would be a bad replacement? Any suggestions or objections?
Kelly says
Tea Tree oil is normally used for acne, so I wouldn’t use it for anti-aging.
shivi says
Heah! i’m 27…. an i apply this …..
Ceci says
I was unable to use the link for the Frankinsense oil. Can you tell me where you get this please?
Thank you!
Sylvia says
You can use lavender, frankincense or geranium essential oils for this recipe. I tried all of them and get compliments about zero wrinkles by my eyes 🙂
Thank you for sharing.
Anne says
I don’t recommend coconut oil as eye cream. I had a light crease under my eye yesterday.. After one night of this mixture under eye, it’s deep and huge. It’s kind of a disaster. I’m guessing but the extreme greasiness on such delicate skin might cause wrinkles. I thought it couldn’t hurt to try something once.–It did.
Shandra says
When I made this eye cream as directed I put it into a small glass jar. I noticed that the vitamin E oil separated & settled at the bottom! Feeling frustrated! What did I do wrong?
Kelly says
Hmmm…that is the first time I’ve heard of that. Was it old?
Manika says
Made this 2 weeks ago and all I can say is this is magic potion. I have had the worst dark circles and to top it I have dry skin… worst combination of under eye skin problems. I had started developing tiny wrinkles under eyes also which would be highlighted with makeup. After using this cream for 2 weeks my dark circles are negligible, the skin under eyes has improved over all and now my tiny wrinkles are not highlighted with makeup… I am a fan 🙂 I cant believe how much money I have spent on expensive eye and under eye products which took forever to show results often putting me off and not using them for long….
Tea says
Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe. I made this today and refrigerated it until it was solid. I live in the north and keep my home around 65. The cream is more of a solid and looks like solid coconut oil. It does melt when I put my finger in to apply. Is yours more of a yellow or white like solid coconut? I used frankincense and vitamin e. Thanks
Kat says
Hi and thank you for this recipe! I have started using it and looking forward to the results.. I was wondering, can I use it for the rest of my face too or the dry patches around the mouth at least? Is it good for fine lines around the mouth? I have very very dry skin by the way. Thanks!
Kelly says
You bet. It is safe to use everywhere!
Ari says
Mine doesn’t stay solid after refrigeration. I just keep it in there permanently. I also used Vitamin E oil, seemed easier than poking the capsules.
Beverly S says
I am glad to have stumbled upon this recipe and plan to make a batch ASAP. Do you know of anything that will help with the crepey skin on my eyelids, upper and lower? I’ve searched among commercial products, but haven’t seen any that mention crepiness specifically.
Jhia Chun says
Hi. I am very happy to have found your DIY Homemade Anti Aging Eye Cream and I am excited to give it a try. It looks great and well done. However, I am concern if it is suitable for me. I actually have this problem where the skin around my eyes tend to develop oil seeds. I have people telling me to avoid eye cream and go for eye gel instead. So, I wonder if you know if this ingredient(maybe coconut oil) will contribute to my oil seed problem.
alyce tyler says
The trick is to find the best eye cream for your skin’s needs. I feel like you’ve been duped by the eye creams promising to erase your dark circles, puffiness and fine lines – I have tried all of them. Right now, I found two that I like from Made From Earth – the Chamomile Eye cream and the Cucumber Gel. I use both on my face and work better than the more expensive creams I bought online.
Cathy says
If you whip coconut oil while it is solid with a hand beater it will not turn to liquid when the weather is warm. Works great!! 🙂
Debra Wilkes says
Kelly I jotted it down and have plans on making it. Thank You Debbie
D. Smith says
I mix beeswax pellets with just a little bit of rosehip oil (don’t want it to be greasy) and some quality frankincense oil (I order my oil through Tropical Traditions). The beeswax doesn’t melt into my eyes quite as quickly as the coconut oil, thus it stays off my eyeballs and I don’t get blurry vision. I’ve come to know that using this at night before bed is the best way. During the daytime I mix frankincense with grapeseed oil (soaks in right away) and use it under my powdered mineral make-up and it works out fine. At night I want something heavier though, so I stay with the beeswax.
Cindy Bestor says
It sounds like a good recipe but why would you put anything in the microwave? The nutritional properties would be destroyed. It’s easy enough to heat up in a pan.
Kat says
How long does the cream last? I’m making my second batch and I realised that the first lasted around a year (outside the fridge), is it ok to keep it that long?
Wornout eyes says
Just what I was looking for…
I’m gonna have to buy a little container
good tips
thanks!
Isabel says
hey! Thanks a lot for your recipe! I can’t wait to buy all those ingredients and make this cream! But I have just one doubt: This must be just an eye cream or can I aply it all over my face too?
Thanks again!

I have straight-up vitamin E oil…instead of the capsules. How much oil does 6 to 8 vitamin E capsules make?

Can I use aloe vera too.?

Hi I made this and can smell the frankincense oil a lot. Is this right or may I have put roo much frankincense oil by mistake?

Hi, I have vitamin e essential oil. How can I replace the 6-8 vitamin e capsule with it? For the eye cream.
